As Time Goes By (Ryan's Version)

After seeing Jameson and Jay giving this time story thing a go I have decided to give it a go myself. I am not likely to remember much of the early days as I struggle with remembering what happened yesterday let alone ten to twelve years ago. Anyway I will give it a go.

Looking back to the very first years of my education I cannot really remember much of it and all of what I can remember is very vague. I started the education route of sorts at Kesgrave playgroup, which I remember to be a large empty room with a wooden floor and wooden walls… and a wooden roof. I guess it was really just a wooden structure that no-one bother decorating and left for the mother and fathers to fight out over what it should be. Anyway I can’t really remember the people who were there but I think that Jack and Edd were there and maybe even Alan. We were only wee sproggs at the time and things that happened were not that exciting.

After graduating playgroup it was onto nursery at Heath Primary School where the fun really began. Teacher’s names I cannot remember as I was only young. I do remember them being fairly large in size when compared to even the chunkiest kids in the nursery. During the playtimes we were aloud into an area that had those duplo blocks and I remember all of the boys making weapons like shotguns and small handguns. If you were the first in there you would take most of the bricks and make the shotguns and if you were late you would have been rejected to the smaller guns. I only ever remember the once where I had to settle for a small gun, but most likely there was a brawl leading to all of the weaponry being destroyed into a millions pieces. Those involved and the spectators would have shed tears. One specific high light of the nursery years included the production of ‘The Three Kings’. I was one of the kings along with Ben Hewitson. I only ever remember Ben but now thinking back I saw a picture that had myself, Ben and Nathan Harris. I personally hate the b*stard and have never liked him. We never had any confrontations during the early years.

The real years of primary school had started here, year one. Teachers that I can remember from the early years included Mrs Lucking, Mrs Godsoll, Mrs Pullem, Mr Beven, Mr (the bloke with dark glasses) and of course the legendry piano playing Mr Bailey. This was the original team from what I can remember in year 1. This year was all about getting used to the school clothing thing, which was not nice to my young skin. I only ever remember having a school dinner the once and even that was by accident. The meal was a pile of shite and even by accident I would never have a school lunch again. Packed lunches were a laugh, it was a hall full of children with lunch boxes that could not be opened, yoghurts that would not open and bottle lids that would of course not open. This meant that a whole hall full of raised arms asking for help with this and the passer by saw that. At the end of each lunch you would be made to raise your arm to ask if you could leave the hall. Prior to even getting out of your seat you would have your lunch box raided by the dinner ladies to see if you had left any food, and if you did you would be made to sit and finish it until you were sit and believe me I had seen this happen a lot of times.

The years were passing and it was about year 3 or 4 and Jack and me were in what was to be the final year together. We were a couple of troublemakers. We were in Mrs Wood-Woods class who was one of the new’uns to the school as there were continual worries about the health of teachers like the extreme piano player Mr Bailey. Firstly we would always ask for new exercise books that would have sugar paper on the front. We would then challenge each other to eating as much of the sugar paper we could before realising it was not real sugar on the paper. We would go through about 2 to 3 front covers a week and then we got found out, we were given a warning not to do it again. Jack had changed his game; he wanted me to get in trouble. He succeeded. He placed a brand new HB pencil on my chair so it was resting between the seat and the backrest. I head back to my chair from sharpening my pencil and then it happened. I sat down on my chair and the loud crack of the pencil sounded. Jack was in hysterics and I was in a state of horror as breaking a pencil and especially a new one was a great offence in those days. I was moved away to the corner of the room where I was to stay for the rest of the year. But the fun didn’t stop there although this final thing wasn’t really that nice. I went to the toilet to find a massive great shite, long and wide sitting in the crapper. I called Jack in to inspect the shite and we diagnosed it as one by Anna Blyth, yes it was she. She was seen leaving the facility prior to me using it; I never used it because of the shite.

I made good use of this time to sneak a peek into the neighbouring classroom to have a look at Zoe Harris who I used to madly fancy during the years 3 to 5. I gave up as she played hard to get and I never got there. There were many other girl incidents during the years but I cannot remember much of them anymore. The other new teachers that had hit the seen were: Mr Henderson, his defining features included a long grey ponytail that only went grey after a couple of years of teaching the maniacs at our school. His specialities were teaching the very basics of drama which I can remember I little bit as he helped with out dodgy Pirate production that I remember Chris Griggs being in. Another new be was Mr Selgren who was a psycho electric acoustic guitar player, his defining features were his beady eyes and strange pointy hair. He was sacked within a year through rumours of him hitting children with his guitar and this then prompted the return of Mr Bailey. Prior to the ending of Mr Selgren Bailey was back and managed to have a couple of duets with Selgren and then he was given the boot and he was never seen again apart from one time in Tower Ramparts Shopping Centre. Mrs Bowditch, lets see. She was my main teacher for my final year in year six. She became the deputy of something and was a rather normal teacher. The last teacher was Jacks in year 6, Mrs Marassercary (not sure about the spelling) and she was SCOTTISH. Oh yes a real Scotswomen who hated men. It was good in English classes, me, Churchyard, Jack and Dale used to mess about loads. It was a great laugh.

My Final Year at primary school, Teacher as stated was Mrs Bowditch. I was hanging around with Dale Mickleson, Stevie Cable and Luke Maskey. We had some right laughs in that group and many jokes were had especially during out first sex-education video that I must say was the most graphic to date. It was claimed that next door to our classroom whilst watching the video, Chris Ling fainted during the video. For details ask Jack about it. It forgot to mention that in the early years of primary school, Edd was lost and moved school to Gorseland where Jameson made friends with him. Now you can see a link between the stories of mine and Jameson. Also it is worth mentioning that Edd lived exactly opposite the Heath Primary school gates which seems silly for him to move school, but the reason for him doing so is that his parents or someone fell out with the head teacher, Mrs Roberts. This then leads on to another small story. In year six the first times of going to Mrs Roberts’ office had occurred. The first incident was when she band football and all of the footballers including myself stormed her office, and the second was myself and Brett Yarwood, the brother of mad Parrot Robert Yarwood. Brett had a fifty pee pence in his hand and I thought that I had lost my fifty pees, I shouted for many minutes arguing it was mine. Knowing that he was a scrubber I thought that he must have stolen it. I sit in my classroom waiting for the result and it goes in my favour, I get the fifty pence. I get home to find that I have 2 fifty pence’s, I was wrong but never mind I kept it anyway.

Some other small events that happened during the final year that are stuck in my memory included the arrival of Natalia Ribbons to our school and this lead to all of the boys chasing her around the play ground for the whole of lunch and break. During this time rumours of Keeley Sutton smoking in the girls toilets were spreading and an equal gathering around Natalia and Keeley had occurred. Little issues like Tom Titchell chasing Ollie Rush around the playground occurred on a daily basis to the extent that Ollie would cry for the whole of break and not leave the classroom. He used the crying and sick excuse to get out of numerous singing assemblies as well. These assemblies featured Mr Bailey. Unlike the alternative Luke Talbot that Jameson’s school had, we had the real McCoy, the man himself in the flesh and bones. Yes he caused terror through the school but that’s enough because I could go on forever about that.

The final incident that was fairly major was with another local hard-nut named Dean, I can never remember his second name but it was something dodgy. It was a normal day nearing summer and Dean was going along in the corridor and saw the Fire Alarm Smash glass thing, he thought he would to see what it would do. The alarm sounds and Dean come running into the room crying, saying that he slipped on the floor and elbowed the fire album, what an original excuse. That was my primary school experiences.

The young years were over and high school was about to start, the end of homework free nights was coming rapidly and the big boys were waiting for us. Knowing that high school was going to be a big change in our lives we decided to do nothing about it apart from just take it as it came at us.

Kesgrave High School was the destination in September 1997 and a whole new life waited for all of us. Some of the old faces from primary school moved away and most went onto High school. Year 7 was a year of new everything, new friends, new premises and new subjects like French, how bad is that. Well I met Jay and Rob from the online net and then Alan made a shock appearance after leaving primary school in about year 4 to move to Sri Lanka. He came back in year 7 and hasn’t left us since. Later I met the others including Jameson, Shields, Rawson, Dan, Randy, and even Lawrence, Jack was there and the return of seeing Edd regularly. Some others have been formed since but to many to say.

The early years of high school still had Ollie crying but he soon got over it and learnt to hold back the tears, he did cause some big problems within the form causing everyone to dislike him especially Alan. Only now have things become near normality again.
The old days have been the best ever and will never be forgotten in my mind. I believe that the memories that I have shared will most probably mean something to only myself, but I have enjoyed sharing them with you. I will say that time is going past very quickly and you will encounter good moments and always the odd bad moment. Cherish the good ones and try to forget the bad and work on something good to make up for the bad thing. Time may be slipping us by quickly but make the most of the days as they come, focus on what you are doing now and have a good future.
