Neighbours
long-running soap opera from Australia

I dont know exactly when this series started, it was probably a while before they started broadcasting over here in the UK, but anyway it's been a while. 15 years would be a complete guess. They show the old repeats on UK Gold so it must have been a while. I have always been a fan, and many a bus ride home after school was spent with me and the Robe chatting about last night's episode and future plot developments. All was peachy until the Robe got sky digital and ever since he has deserted his past - he no longer watches the show.

I have remained a loyal fan however, but when i try to strike up a conversation about Felicity Scully's latest career plan - they only vaguely know what i'm talking about and it saddens me.

I remember the days of Helen Daniels falling off balconies, and Hannah's dodgy manly haircuts after coming back from France. I remember Phil's financial advice and when Joel Samuel's crippled himself ruining his triathelete career. I remember when Malcom still lived with Susan, Karl, Libby and Billy all in one house. I remember when Billy had an affair with some girl in the swimming pool changing rooms/shower and I remember when Tad had really long hair, and looked a right prat. Toady was known as Toadfish, and Phil met Ruth. Then there was Sarah, the receptionist at the surgery who had an "affair" with Karl, which was actually just one kiss.

The memories... I remember when Billy set up his own business making furniture in a garage, and Anne moved into a warehouse to do her art and Billy got jealous of her relationship with a smooth operator, whose name i forget. I remember how Lance always was on and off with Amy. I remember when Libby was with Darren and Karl and Susan never approved, Madge was still alive. I remember when Harold came back from the dead, and Drew won the rodeo the first time since leaving Okie. I remember when Harold and Madge bought a fast-food burger café and when Susan ran over Sarah's dog Bob in the car. I remember the fiasco surrounding Lance's Celine Dion CD and when Tad first started to DJ. I remember Stonefish, I remember Annelise, I remember Melissa, Cheryl, Brett and the rest... I remember how good it was, do you?

This show has left me with many nice, happy memories and for that I am eternally greatful. I just wish it could have sustained the interest of Robert Hendy as well, those.. definately were the days.
