Wimbledon 2002, so far.. Firstly considering that Wimbledon is now only 50% of the way through this is obviously a non-complete review. I am doing this completly through the fact that i need to boost the number of articles i have written which at the moment is very poor to say the least. Anyway, in short I will talk about this years Wimbledon Championships so far. The big shocks of the championships this year so far are that Pete Sampras was knocked out in the second round against a non-seeded player. This year meant that it is now 2 years since he last got his hands on the trophy that he had won so many years running prior to these last 2 years. Also champion from 10 years ago Andre Agassi failed to get past the secind round as well, he was also beaten by a non-seeded player. Agassi was trying to go for the title more than ever this year as it was along while ago since he won it, and to do it exactly 10 years after he last won it would have been some achievement. Last years winner, Goran Ivanesevic was not to attend this years championships as he declared at the beginning of the last one that it would be his last one. Also last years finalist Patrick Rafter was to play his last championship last year as well. This meant that 2 of the best players were not there to put pressure onto the players who were there. Also early exits from the womens championship saw Anna Kournikova go out in the first round but today she is still in the ladies doubles and going strong, thank god! British hopeful in the ladies tournament, Eleana Baltacha, a local lady from Ipswich (parents not 100% British) did well to get through to the 3rd round where she then lost out. The next tournament she plays in is also local, it's in Felixstowe. Good luck to her. Onto the british men and early exits saw Arvid Palmer lose out in the first round, he had a hard first round opponent but was not up to the standard he set in last years championship. Maybe next year he will progress further. The 2 british hopefuls, Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman have done well so far. Henman has got to the quarter finals where he will face Leyton Hewitt in his first Wimbledon quarter final. Remember these 2 met only a mnth ago in the Stella Artois Championship where Hewitt beat Henman in the Final. Rusedski on the other hand is still playing his match which is at one set all and has been suspended for the day due to fading light. He has to win the next set to progress to the quarter finals. At this moment in time if both players were to progress right to the end, they would more than likely meet in the final. But that is a long way off yet so lets no go there. Thats all for now, a full review of the championship will be up when the championship is complete funnily enough. Prediction for the overall winner, at the moment it is unclear but looking at how Leyton Hewitt did in his last championship i would not bet against him.
