TON HQ Redevelopment Scheme, part 1
Redevelopment is a necessity in some areas that have become particularly run down. One of the main reasons that it's needed is the quality of life and whether or not it is satisfactory. Areas can become full of unhappy, depressed and even suicidal residents because the conditions they live in are so poor, and it’s at this point that something must be done. HQ was about a year past this point, and I finally got around to sorting it all out. Urban Decay, like a tropical disease, has been carried by the filfth of the inner-city areas into the suburbs, infesting everything and anything. Reports suggest that if the Scheme had not been carried out within the next few months, all the creators would've killed themselves and TON would cease to exist by about September 2002 - a thought that I know keeps Randy awake every night.
The first port of call was the aesthetics, structural enhancements & modifications. Aesthetics, Structural Enhancements & Modifications One of the main problems whilst in the room was the tango-like orange glow that was everywhere you look. There was a rustic orange carpet, there was bright orange walls with dark orange trim 'n door - it was heaven for about a week but it was becoming unbearable and I'd already scraped half of my left retina out, so we got to work. ![]() Image 1 ![]() Image 2 (TON & JLAN Central) You can clearly see in Image 2 that this wasn't a perfect working environment, the mouse is too close to the keyboard, discs of all kinds are in the working area and the brightness of the orange is distracting any possible productivity that could be going on. All of these problems will be addressed in the scheme, but first it was the colour: Painting The TON team as always was amazingly ![]() Image 3 Here in Image 3 we not only see Ryan doing god knows what with that kitchen roll, but we also see the paint that we would be applying to the walls. The first thing that should be pointed out is that they're not that light, one of them infact is quite dark and they are different colours. The two main tins are for the main walls and are a Matt Emulsion, the smaller two for the borders and door are a Satin Gloss, but i'm sure you knew that. The Colours I decided to choose two shades of blue, and merge them halfway along the room meaning it would be darker one end than the other. We did this to be clever. I chose blue because I think it represents calm, it also provides a nice working environment, it's light during the day and dark at night, and blue is more manly than orange... I think. ![]() Image 4 ![]() Image 5 We can see above in Images 4 & 5 that everything started off pretty smoothly. The walls were coming along nicely and Ryan had done a nice job around the new windows, which he reminded us about every half an hour until we'd finished. We had originally discussed a half past seven in the morning start and finishing late, the Robe showed up about four in the afternoon after myself and Ryan had finished an entire wall, including the complex process of 'merging'. ![]() Image 6 ![]() Image 7 |
