Ipswich Town 8 (9) VS Avenir Beggen 1 (1) 2nd Leg : Review Now what can be said about the match, it was brilliant, a goal fest, and certainly was worth the money which was not much at all. You see that score at the top of the page; 8 - 1 ! It all started very quickly with an early goal in the open minutes from Tommy Miller who gain posession from a pass from team mate Pablo Counago. 1 - 0. There was a 15minute break of goals before town started to fire them in from all angles. The next goal came from the man who set up Millers first, it was Counago who slips the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the Beggen goal. 2 - 0. A minute later a wonderfall goal that Kanu would have been proud of was scored by Miller, again from a pass of Counago. A back heel flick from an across the goal cross left the keeper standing. 3 - 0 and the match looked almost over. It was only 2 minutes later until town had hit number 4, it was Counago with a tap in from a cross from the return of Martijn Reuser which put both himself and Miller on a possible hat-trick. The score now was 4 - 0 and the Beggen fans were still rather loud considering there was only 10 or 11 of them. Still with 25minutes until half time town decided to have a rest and not score any goals, they had chances but none of which went in until the 41st minute. Jim Magilton crossed the ball in and Wayne Brown scored on his return from injury and scoring his first goal from the club to make it 5 - 0 before half time. So half time had reached us and Jack, his dad and edd left me to sit on my own whilst they went to go and get beverages and food for themselves as i had taken some with me, well it was a bag of Wheet Crunchies, a bag of Skittles and a Ribena. The others came back with large cokes, and jack also had a sausage roll which in the end i managed to acquire the last quarter of it. During the break we also discussed how the bloke behind us who was rather obese and had a whole row to himself and had a goatee, we realised that he did not like Marcus Bent. Some of the things he said were as followed: " Don't pass it too Marcus " , " We won't score if you pass it to Marcus " , " You see that Marcus, thats how it should be done " , " See now we've scored, you didn't help did you Marcus?! ". When we had finished talking about the bloke behind the time had come and the second half was about to begin. The first 10 minutes in the half were baron, and then what happened was something the whole crowd enjoyed, a goal from Beggen. It was someone called Molitor who got his head onto a cross and powered it past Andy Marshall who had still had to make a save in the match. Applause from the home fans and some serious excitement from the Beggen fans. 5 -1. 2 minutes later and the goal scorer Molitor is down in his own half with an injury and then the second loudest roar of the night from the home fans came, Beggens female physio came on and the noise was immense. This was loved by all, especially the fans in the lower north stand. After the long wait for the injury to be sorted, town were back on form and scoring through a deflected shot that came to the feet of John McGreal who slotted it past the keeper making the score 6 - 1 on the night and 7 - 1 on aggregate. A few minutes after the goal another of the Beggens players were down injured and then the crowd got really loud and excited as they knew what was coming on next. Yes, the female physio was back on to the loudest of roars on the night. Cheers and laughter at the cheers were ringing around the stadium, the relaxed atmosphere was loved by all. So the minutes rolled by and on the 73rd minute Pablo Counago was on the end of a threaded ball by Jamie Clapham and Counago finshed it with ease to complete his hat-trick. The score, 7 - 1 and all was superb. The final 15minutes were interesting with another injury but the female physio did not come on with the stretcher but the Ipswich physio did, he recieved boo's but this was all in the jokeful manor of the night. The 78th minute brought the final goal of the night, a goal from a pulled back pass from Finidi George to Darren Ambrose who put the ball past the Beggen keeper. 8 - 1 on the night and 9 -1 on aggregate. ![]() Towns Pablo Counago puts away his final goal that gets him his hat-trick This is how the scored stayed for the final ten or so minutes as Beggen kept strong to not concede any more goals to add insult to injury to a brave performance from a team that is still in need of learning about the game over here in the UK. It was a great game to go and watch, there may have been only 17,462 people there out of a possible 30,000 but it sounded like it was a full house. The atmosphere was good and all passed well. Into the real first round of the UEFA Cup and some other foreign team is up next. Review Written by Ryan - KENTs ryan.kent71@btopenworld.com |
