BT Ineptness
ok, the story goes as follows engineer #1 turns up the other day, might have been yesterday, but i cant remeber, his presence is unexpected, and this unnerves paul hendy, immediately putting engineer #1 at an advantage. engineer #1 is very unprofessional, unscrews a few telephone plugs, buggers up our phone line, then fixes it again, before telling us that it would be most cost effective to put in what is called a DAX which is a digital splitter in our house, which converts our one line into two digital lines but possibly at the expense of data transfer quality, however he believes that this is not a problem in the majority of cases. engineer #1 calls engineer #2 and tells him to come round and fit a DAX in our house tomorrow [today]. engineer #2 turns up today, and the first thing he questions is "will the line be used for data transfer" i nod in aggreement, and he shakes his head, and says "well, you can't have a DAX then, as you would only be able to connect through modem to the internet at very low bitrates. 'damn' i think. "the only option is to have another physical line put in" engineer #2 goes outside the house, and walks around the close a bit, looking for a phoneline manhole cover thing. he finds a midget one [only a few ice-cream tub sizes big] and sticks his head in, before withdrawing, and shaking his head. "there's no spare line, mate... which'll mean we'll have to dig up the road, and put in another cable. He gives us a quote for £270 for digging up the road and putting in another line from the green box at the end of the close, and says that monthly line rental for a second line is £10.50, which we already know. Now about 1.55pm Paul Hendy remembers that he has to be at BT martlesham for 2pm for a conference call meeting thing, and politely tells engineer #2 to bugger off so that he can get to work. engineer #2 goes away, Paul Hendy goes away. After conference call at BT martlesham, Paul Hendy phones someone BT internetl in the know about installing phone lines, and the like, [I presume helpful engineer #3] who gives Paul Hendy a quote of £1000 [!!!!] to dig up the road and put another line in, with monthly line still being £10.50, which we already know. But now apparently the minimum term of contract is 12 months. Paul Hendy phones up me [at home] and says "too expensive" and hangs up. "damn bt, and damn the country" i say. Written by Rib |
