WAN Evaluation
It wasn't until I tried to add WAN to a directory system (http://www.directoryhere.com/) that I realised that I don't have a clue what we stand for or even do. I have tried to link a few ideas together - concepts such as computer networks, society/social, and even entertainment but they do not seem to link together well enough. I cannot pigeonhole wideasleep. Which is probably a good thing. Ton used to be considered an entertainment or comedy site - however much of the original comedy was stolen from other sites, and despite being really funny, it was removed in one of the perfection traces. Thus at this point it became a site based around articles. However - the articles could not be classed simply as humour since many are about actual real life activities and such. So, I deduced - maybe the site is based around news - but this thought was quashed quickly when I realised that no real news has ever been broadcasted anywhere on the network. Next I tried the idea of the social side of the network. Yes - there are many people who use the forum, or who work together for various parts (writing articles, or creating member sites for example) but I think that the network evolved from the community already present, and not the other way around. Thus - despite having a forum, it could not be classed as a social tool. Maybe, I considered, it is some sort of network - as the name suggests. Whilst the systems all run across the internet (the biggest network we have as a race) the group (for it could not be classed as a company or even an institution) does no run any of its own services at the moment. Thus - it does not exactly perform 'networking' or 'network maintenance' of any kind. So far - the network appears to be a hodge-podge of ideas. The original concept for the network was to group together all of the various sites from people with links to ton. This even became part of the membership schema - that to be a member, the creator of a member site must have contrbuted significantly to TON. This will never be clouded - Jay is in complete control in case I go crazy and try to add random sites. He has my scruples in a vice and he is the only one with the handle. Anyway - TRL (the original gaming site), TTL (the truth lies!!!) and many other member sites have collapsed in the past, and part of me believes that within time - everything will indeed collapse back to the online net. As part of the mass perfection project - all the loose ends will need to be tied. Once this is complete, we will have something that we can step back and look at and truly be proud. Conclusion: So to conclude - it is possible to see that the network as a whole is constantly evolving. As quickly as new ideas and modules of the network are bolted on to the outside - others are being absorbed into the core and are becoming key components. As well as this however - some parts must fall off. As much as a limb with Gangrene will be removed - a site that does not fit with the concepts laid out will eventually leave the mass and rejoin the darkness. The network cannot and will not be pigeonholed into a 'catagory'. We will strive to provide a tool for interaction with our way of life - something that we can come too, to waste a few precious hours. Something that we can use to store the pas Written by Rawson |
