Recently been on
DeviantART, and set up
my own account so now I have
a gallery on show with some of the photos i've taken, and you can be sure there is alot more to come on there. TON has always been full of interesting and witty writings, articles and opinions but more and more we're looking at visual enhancements so this is another step in the right direction to multi-media heaven. This link will be available on the left, under Gallery.
The re-launch of TON on the 25th June, will bring:
- Star Wars: Episode 2 (Review) - Already written
- At least 2 more unnamed articles, which will be usual standard.
- A feature preview on the great summer of 2002
- Some structual / Design changes, specifically to the Articles page.
caution

Due to the busy and important nature of the upcoming weeks,
main.htm and TON in whole will be put on standby. I have no plans to update it during this time, as there is nothing coming up worth shouting about, and I really should be concentrating on other things right now. The archives and all other pages are left here for you to browse through, there just won't be any new content added.
you can't stop the rock
We have even more new stuff about including an
evening out at portman road and the Robe making a rare contribution with his pictorial account of
the cans at roblan - more details can be obtained in LAN Central.

fact of the hour
The Online Net is the
3,054,183rd most popular site on the internet, according to
Alexa.

take 2 tablets every 4 hours

Updated the
LAN Central section seeing as
HenduLAN did go ahead, and some of our time wasting can be seen on the
Edited Creations page including some simple personnel cloning. Some changes are coming to the community as we bid farewell to the third website to disappear from these lands. Following not so far behind in the footsteps of TRL is the departure and tragic loss of
The Offline Net. Look at
R.I.P for more information on the past.
Slight change to the
Mp3s of the Moment page, I thought it needed to be a bit more visual to be worth keeping around, and of course it wouldn't be a proper update without something new
on the monitor.
Added some pictures to the profiles,
Gareth and
Hardcastle to name them all, and also here is a stunning picture of
Blair giving some valuable advice.

just going to be taking a break
there isn't much coming up in the immediate future, so I shall be probably taking a break from updating for a while. There might be something on HenDuLAN if it happens this weekend but otherwise no features or events are upcoming, so there's no call for regular updates. But don't fear for this summer TON will be here stronger than ever with many planned features in the proverbial pipeline, lots of ideas flying about and a hell of alot of potential.
LAN Central Update:
Events; JLAN, Machine specifications and minor adjustments...
In the mean time I leave you with the achive, a new article from Rusty -
Operation Hubcap, which is another classic day out, a new
what's on the moniter (very imaginative) and an update
here. See you around -
Jay.

and the shadow crossed the moon, slowly but surely
A small mini-feature thing I just thought of, and superbly implemented within 5 minutes is the
Can Challenge during which I basically stack some cans on top of one-another and take pictures, it's genius in it's simplicity. I am now also running 5 accounts on Windows Messenger at once, and believe I am the first person around these parts to ever try something this daring and foolish. You can see
a screenshot here.
The first preview of one of our Summer Features for 2002 is
Stakeout, which is just a taster to inform you all. And That is it for now.

the public

I'm not sure of the official figures, but I know at least 10 million have been watching each episode of
Eastenders at the moment. The so-called 'excitement' over
the trial of possibly the most pathetic character ever portrayed on the programme is nothing but unsubstantiated media hype. For me anyway, it's just getting annoying - every episode with her in before was bad enough but now she's a main feature it's getting too much to bear and I for one will be glad when it's all over, and she's been locked away. Even
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps seems viable in comparison right now.
Above is a photo of the Robe using a public telephone box one idle day a few weeks back. It was part of the Bucklesham leg of the tour which we managed to complete within a couple of hours taking just over 60 pictures, one expects London to take slightly longer. Currently my artistic inspiration has dried up, and i'm having real trouble finding decent things to photograph, also finding the time is difficult as i'm supposed to be revising and all that for upcoming exams.
This weekend brings another two days, but also alot more. The Online Net is teaming up with
Emotion Hendrix for a one-off photo shoot that should produce some amazing results. Also coming soon are some articles that have been in the pipeline for a while including the much anticipated 'What I Can't See From Where I Am Sitting' and a feature by Hardcastle currently under the name of 'Operation Bogroll' - details of which cannot be disclosed for security reasons.
Updates to
this,
this and
this.

long road to nowhere

Speaking a few days ago about times coming up, and it's not so long until another summertime, long light nights, warm evenings, barbeques in the garden and alot of free time to relax. I'm especially looking forward to the last one, as I have absolutely no intentions of doing any work, I don't need the money and i'm lazy so it makes sense to just sit around at home.
The Tour Online will be crafted crudely in the time I don't spend lying on the grass staring at the sky. This is basically a photographical tour of the local areas, hot spots and places we've wandered. At some point I'll also be dragging the Robe some places like London for a 'grand day out', where we'll inevitably get complacent and spend all our money rendering us lost sheep in the big city armed with only our wits and a digital camera, but it's something to do.
I now have control of the
Digital Camera and the old
Webcam, which means digital media integration and distribution via broadband is at peak performance capability with optimum possibilities, which does make me happy.

social commentary

Things once again are changing around these parts,
The Offline Net is simplifying and concluding a long-running feature,
The Rocket Launcher has "shut up shop" never to return the same and many other sites have turned stagnent. However The Rocket Launcher Revisited is coming soon from TON, so it will never be truly forgotten.
The days are getting longer, and the chances of it snowing again around here soon are all too low. Before we know it October will be around again and TON's future will be decided, it is most likely we'll register again for another two years at .co.uk, or we could disappear under a new name, or disappear completely. Then again we could end up at .com, .tv or if we win the lottery .net - we'll see. I also forgot to mention the
Joe page I added when bored, which you won't understand.
..and on today's random note, I wandered into the garden the other day and took that picture. It's amazing what you find in gardens these days.

freedom
It's been about for a while, but i've only just got around to linking to it;
Trophy.ppt. It's a powerpoint presentation of Randy, Jameson and Rawson making 'The Online Net Challenge Cup' and and taking pictures of themselves with a webcam. The trophy itself was spoken about by Randy
here, and there is more details available on his site:
TON Magic.
9th April 2002
Consider a number of new things to spend my time doing soon, firstly I want to upload the sound clips of Jameson doing some of his comedy impressions from
RandyLAN2 including 9 seperate takes of trying to sing 'It's Not Easy Being Green' by Kermit the Frog. I was then trying to think of a more interesting article, more of a feature article type thing, the kind they feature over at
PWOT. But for that to come about something interesting needs to happen around here soon, the next trip, the next encounter, the next Golfball Challenge -- I'm open to
suggestions on this one.
It's only a matter of weeks until freedom, and the atmosphere is strangely sedate, i'm sure people will start to panic soon and thats when the supreme will reign just that. For a moment I thought it was snowing on the way home today but t'was just my imagination, and it was infact just - dull english weather. There is
another article by rawson here, on a completely seperate note, and is basically just a conversation we were having, or he was having and I was just there at the time and he decided to turn it into an article. I've pretty much narrated half of it right there - so don't expect much, please. Which brings me nicely onto my next point:
Why is there no headphone socket on my television?

the results of the voting
We can now announce the
Results of TFGTAA:
(The First Great TON Article Awards)
View the results here.
Also today marks the Launch of
LAN Central - a brand new section on the site dedicated to the events and people who attend. Coming soon will be the long overdue results of the
TON Quiz, which was sent out about 6 months ago so watch out for that. On a personal level I have decided that The Online Net is significantly more important than an Art Qualification, so therefore have prioritised occordingly.
reaching one hundred
Finally the wait is over and we have reached 100 articles, in celebration of this we present to you, the 100th Article:
100.
The core group have all written something for this big occasion, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we would if we hadn't written them. Also the usual regular updates of the
What's on the Monitor page and a slight change to the structure of the site. There are no longer any frames, which is a good thing although all the articles will now be aligned to the right of the page and I dont have the energy to change that. I nearly forgot to mention Jameson's latest individual article, which is an amazing story of one boy and his adventures -
The Forgotten Life of Johnny Leversham - it's a great read.

00:00 2/04/2002the easter sunday update
It's up you the viewing public to cast your votes for the nominees in each category, with the results to be announced once we reach 99 articles on the site, which should be soon. Click above or
here to vote. Please read all instructions carefully.
The awards look set to reward a few individuals more than others, Rawson is up for the most awards with 7 nominations in total along with Jameson. Rog manages to nab 3 nominations despite writing the least articles although the Robe is set to recieve the most enlightenment in an article award with 2 of the 3 nominations there.
Best article is the closest it's ever been, although 2001's epic proportions is likely to take the riches but if not it could be any of the competeting articles. Jameson, Jay and Rawson have their own dedicated awards for excellence throughout the year. Recognition of course must go to the other writers who have featured; Lawrence, Rog, Ryan, Randy, Rusty & the Robe.
