Casablanca Poster - Christmas 2003 Comp

This year is not only the first year that I bought a poster, but it is also turning out to be the first year that I've given one away as a prize on this site. You would be forgiven for thinking this coincidence rather sinister, but let me tell you a story. I purchased this fine looking bit of film merchandise off "the internet", they sent it to me and I was upset to find a small crumpling of the lower right corner, so naturally I complained. The only variation from the norm here was that they actually sent another one for free, and that is what we are giving away my friends.

The contest is running on livejournal:
(http://www.livejournal.com/users/sessodio/629948.html), open to everyone and anyone, and the closing date will be the 15th of December 2003. The winner will be handed the prize in person and congratulated on their fine application.

Candidate Name: Thomas Bevan
Individual Identity Number: 01001001
Reason: If you can get something for nothing, then go for it. Also it would make me look like a sophisticated film buff, something I have always wanted to be but have always fallen at the wayside. Also I love you.

Candidate Name: Miss.Hunwicks
Individual Identity Number: 666
Reason: it would look nicer on my wall than the one it is on at the moment.

Candidate Name: adnama doowllams
Individual Identity Number: 80085 (it says boobs!!)
Reason: aww i'd like it but ive never seen the film... not too much of the convincing... but i would like to know where bouts you got it? do they have lots of film posters *excited by posters*

Candidate Name: Miss. Jennifer Curtis.
Individual Identity Number: 55378008 :(
Reason: Currently I have a large picture of garfield on my wall. It looks wrong. It would make my year to have such a poster that has been the property of Justin King the Legends. In years to come, when I'm rich and famous, and then commit suicide, the poster shall be up for auction in Sotherby's, and I will make sure all the money for it goes to you.

Candidate Name: Ixer (I would state first name but it seems feutial due to the fact knowbody uses it anymore)
Idividual Identity Number: 1437
Reason: Because I still have a large expanse of wall which needs something to break it up. Also it is cool. I also love you Jay and think you are the greatest guy in the world. And I only have one name.

Candidate Name: Hardcastle, Paul Michael
Individual Identity Number: 32-19 070386/1181181033.1449
Reason: I've seen the movie, Rick [Humphrey Bogart] mostly stands on the left of the screen. This is meaningful if you are doing a textural analysis of the film, which I am not.

Candidate Name: Mr Pillsbury Doughboy
Individual Identity Number: NE14ABJ
Reason: Just to stop anyone else having it. I will, if given it, burn it, solely to annoy people who could actually enjoy it. But rest assured, it would be burned in a tasteful fashion.

Candidate Name: Stu Dow
Individual Identity Number: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375somebody was bound to do this...
Reason:.

Candidate Name: Ian 'Rusty' James
Individual Identity Number: 08091985
Reason: Because I can "Play it again Sam"

Candidate Name: Laura Ashwell
Individual Identity Number: 19259/7009
Reason: Because I shall love and cherish the poster, and it shall have pride of place next to my other 'classic cinema' poster of Breakfast at Tiffanys, and The Godfather. Plus it would look amazing if I took it to university with me, and enable me to seem cultured.

Candidate Name: Dave Randall
Individual Identity Number: 69
Reason: As a world renowned conosieur (sp?) of classic film I really think this poster deserves to be in the room of somebody who is clearly cultured enough to understand it. Casablanca (directed by Michael Curtiz) is a true demonstration of a good film noir and amazingly it is still regarded today (61 years later) as one of the best films of all time. Regarded as one of the best love films of all time I would really enjoy just staring at this poster all day, in fact I am considering leaving off school to donate my entire life to sitting in front of this poster as a testiment to the power of Curtiz's work. One thing I really find amazing about this feel is its huge political impact on the world around it, Casablanca was released in 1942 during the high point of Third Reich. Casablanca's tale of life under Nazi occupation helped to bring the United States into the war. A true testiment to the power of film and the medias influences on society and history. Also I have alot of space on my wall left to fill.

Cheers.
Dave
