Big Brother 2002
Big Brother 3
The latest happenings from inside the Big Brother house:

27th June 2002
I haven't been watching much Big Brother lately, as it been so dull, but we have another eviction to look forward to on Friday followed by the live task on Saturday, following which the divide might be coming down. Jonny vs. Sophie - unfortunately one of them has to go, as I like both of them and i'm sorry to say it will be Sophie, I have been reliably informed by my knowledge of the show that she is by far less popular than funny man Jonathan.

Also I see a strong link to one of my favourite western movies coming out in the show:

the good
sophie, jonny, peej, kate

the bad
adele, tim, alex

the ugly
jade

25th June 2002
What is the best thing about Big Brother? I have been thinking about this and I can't come up with a good answer. When you think about it the show itself is actually very boring, the live broadcasts on E4 consist of housemates sitting around occasionally saying something about something and being interrupted by 'sounds of nature' whenever they swear or mention Nike trainers.

Maybe once every 5 hours you will be witness to something that then gets shown on the highlights programme. Perhaps Jade shouting or Alex being a pansy, but that's about it. Also the people this time round are far less likeable than they were in days gone by and more often that not, very dull. I can't see a much longer life-span in the Big Brother phenomenom and wouldn't be at all surprised if it doesn't last much longer than a few more years.

Jonny and Sophie are up for eviction this week, so not much of a competition there. It's still unbelievable that Jade is still in there, perhaps not unbelievable.. just painful. I may consider trading in my TV for a Mac or some coloured pencils if she doesn't go soon..

The Burning Matches of Death
Fire in the house - symbolic

22nd June 2002
Spencer is out. With all of my one votes I still couldn't save him from what, in the end, seemed rather inevitable. An extraordinary fall from the top, which will surely now see the making of Alex. After fighting off the challenge of the most popular housemate to date he must now go on to win, and because of this I make him my Red-hot favourite of the month:

Red-hot favourite of the month: Alex

With TON's favourite departing we propose a two-part revival plan. Part 1 consist of tribute articles but the creators on why he was the best, and shall always be remembered like no other Big Brother housemates before him. Part 2 of the plan is to support one of his allies, therefore we will only except Jonny, PJ or Kate winning Big Brother 2002. If they are all voted out before the end I will be forced to boycott the show, or at least pretend to.

Unfortunately those I want to win are not my red-hot favourites, but I can overcome this by being wrong as I have been many times before.

Spencer is the 4th to go
Spencer in full-flow

20th June 2002
Everyone probably knows about the Jade and Adele fight, for future reference Adele is a bit of a man-bitch and Jade has mental deffenciencies. Tomrrow is not only a big day for the World Cup but also the next eviction will take place and I am beginning to lose confidence over Spencer's chances. The online popularity poll, which gives a good indication of public opinion has favoured Spanky throughout but has now started to faulter. Whilst he still remains top of the charts, he's lost 9% almost over night, and Alex has climbed back up to 3rd. It will definately be a close one.

Spencer or Alex ?
The 4th Eviction

18th June 2002
After a long break it's back to business, the BB house has seen another housemate come and another housemate go. Lee was evicted with over 80% of the public votes and although he claimed to be ok with it, I could see the fear in his eyes. Timothy is the newest housemates to come in late and he's a bit of a twat, and we will be speaking no more of him unless strictly necessary.

This week we were hit with some devastating news, Spencer AKA Spanky is up for eviction and will face the public vote, and unfortunately this seems to coincide with some negative opinions in the press of dear Spence. Therefore we have decided to launch
operation: save the spank,
this consists of me (jay) voting for Alex. Operation carried out successfully.

The pool fest
Blue pool table

14th June 2002
The 'Sandy Memorial Walk Challenge' went underway this afternoon, which consisted of the 'Rich' housemates walking around the Pool for 4 hours, which would've been extremely boring to watch had it not been so strangely hypnotic. They completed the challenge and the poor side got a Pool table for the night and not wanting to lose out on any time PJ, Spencer & Alex decided to go for a marathon pool fest until 10AM when they lose the table. Unfortunately PJ crashed out after 68 games followed later on by Alex and Spanky who were after the big 100.

On Sunday a new housemate will be introduced and we'll come up with some quality analysis and snap judgements. Following the trend, seeing as Sandy left it will have to be a bloke who replaces him, and it really could be anyone. This new housemate will face even more adversity than Sophie coming into the house much later into proceedings and could be excluded my the others. I would most like to see someone who doesn't speak English in the house.

Sandy leaves the Big Brother House
Sandy's Exit

12th June 2002
Well we can hardly let an update pass without mentioning the dramatic exit of Sandy earlier on this morning as everyone else was sitting down to watch England vs. Nigeria. After emerging from the bedroom he merely said "see ya, love ya" and ran into the garden, climbed onto the roof and escaped down the back to freedom to a mix of "go sandy go" and "somebody stop him" from Alex.

It's probably a good thing he's left as it saves him from explaining pissing in the kitchen bin last night after drinking himself to sleep. Spencer has also been rule breaking, crossing the divide a couple of times last night, letting the chickens out of the coop and other cunning trickery. It seems he may have gone insane after staying up all night so not to miss the match but hopefully he'll be alright next time he wakes up. Which should be sometime around Friday.

Kate and Spencer split up
Kate and Spanky

10th June 2002
Friday was a big day in the Big Brothel house as Alison was evicted, not because she left but because she was really really big. The next day the task that split the house in two and it's all going pearshaped. Housemates are more depressed than ever, Sandy wants out, Spencer wants alcohol and everyone wants global domination.

And yes, I think we'll find that Spencer will shower more now he only has a cold shower because I'm trying to predict the unpredictable and the only way to do it is to be unpredictable in my predictions.

Kate
Kate - Wet

7th June 2002
After the pure carnage of Jade's birthday we're once again reminded not to drink cheap cider. It definately didn't have a good effect on Alex who spent the evening in a short skirt attempting to imitate a camp voice, but sounding completely normal to everyone else. I dont think this would've helped his eviction cause at all, and he is still my favourite to leave the Big Brother house this evening.

For today's vital world cup game between England and Argentina; PJ, Spencer and Sandy sat in the garden with the England flag drinking cider and talking about submarines. As we know the housemates are not allowed contact with the outside world, which is what led to this insanity.

Sophie
Sophie - Sweet

5th June 2002
Today is Jade's birthday, whether she'll get something as disturbing as Lee's wrestling party is yet to be seen. The first nominations were announced yesterday and Alex, Alison & Sandy are up for eviction. My opinion is that the popularity vote on the official website will be the telling factor here. I expect an almost mirror image of popularity when it comes to the real voting. Therefore Alex will be evicted, just getting more votes than Alison and Sandy will easily be safe.

Tensions between Alex and Jonny seem to have almost gone as they talked together in the early hours of this morning, though both nominated eachother in the diary room. Lee has been as good as turned down by new girl Sophie after hinting he was available by saying he and Adele were just friends but Sophie countered by suggesting that's all she was looking for. It's like high school.

Spencer aka. Spanky is still on top in the house, public favourite, and still dangling Kate from a string. Whether he's playing a very cunning game or is actually interested in her is yet to be seen.

The vultures Gather around new girl Sophie
Sophie in the pool

4th June 2002
So Sunita's replacement is Sophie who apparently is not a lingerie model, though she does model lingerie quite well one would assume. Adele and Lee have kissed whilst in bed and Jade thinks Kate has a nicer face than Sophie despite saying she looked like a "fucking dog" days before. The housemates have nominated for the first time, Jade likes PJ, PJ thinks everyone likes him, No-one likes Alex, Kate likes Spencer, Spencer likes Kate and Sophie, Alison likes Jonny and Adele & Lee like eachother.

I should start watching at night again.

Jonny
Alcohol brings out the truth in the house

2nd June 2002
Last night the housemates completed their first live task, which was a simple 10 question quiz with easy questions but I still can't believe they didn't know the cheese that Wallace & Gromit like is Wendsleydale.

Alex is still in a bad mood over jonny announcing he pissed in the shower, champagne didn't help all the housemates to relax, "I don't want to drink because when I drink, it's got to be with people I want to drink with", Sandy proclaimed as the group helped themselves to the hamper Big Brother had given as a reward.

Today, Sunita's replacement enters the house.. we're expecting a busty lesbian lingerie model or a Hillary Clinton look-a-like. All shall be revealed at 1.30pm.

In other news, Alex is the 'Duvet Rustler' and Spence takes control of his minions

Romance could be in the air for Kate and Spencer
Kate & Spencer - Getting close?

31st May 2002
Lynne is evicted first from the Big Brother house after everyone votes to keep Jade in. This result is sure to disappoint Ryan who was very clear about his opinion on Jade:

"
[16:15] Ryan says: FAT BITCH
[16:17] Ryan says: shes gotta go
"

The Robe may well disagree with this decision also, as earlier he showed support for Lynne as he questioned why nobody liked her, and i'll admit my first opinions of Jade were not good but she has become much more bearable than Lynne when she started having a go at Spence for being "too cocky" and "self-assured".. is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Current TON Favourite:
Spencer..

..because he's self-assured, he's himself and he is attracting the attentions of the lovely Kate, whom the Robe has developed a semi-healthy infactuation with.

World Cup 2002 Korea Japan
World Cup 2002
Latest Result:
Germany 0 - 2 Brazil (Final)

2nd July 2002
The world Cup 2002 is now officially over and has been for a few years, instead of writing something here we have other things to check out, the officially TON World Cup Review and you can view all the pictures we have of the final here.

We'll be back in 4 years.

R O N A L D O
Brazil - Ronaldo

27th June 2002
Here we are then, the World Cup 2002 coming to it's conclusion, with two days and two matches to go. It's been an interesting World Cup, surprise performances from teams like the USA, South Korea, Turkey & Senegal. Incredibly poor tournaments from France & Argentina, so called favourites by nearly everyone. Italy and Spain both crashed out to South Korea and complained about it afterwards. England went about as far as we thought they would, and Ireland gained a lot of fans with their good performances.

I expected more from Mexico, Uraguay & Portugal but in the end, one match, one winner, 50% chance. It's both a surprise and not a surprise to see Germany in the final, they have a shit team and are very boring to watch but always manage to get through. I think I speak for the whole of the UK when I say we'll be supporting Brazil come this Sunday.

The third place playoff is between Turkey and South Korea and I think the pride of the home nation will be too much for the Turks, and no-one likes them anyway after the incidents in Galatasary a few years back.

The golden boot is now between 3 men: Miroslav Klose (Germany), Rivaldo (Brazil) and Ronaldo (Brazil). All three of these were mostly ignored when predicting the golden boot before the start, with players like Crespo, Owen, Henry, Trezeguet, Morientes & Vieri all expected to be challenging. I have to say it's close (no pun intended), but a brazillian has to win, and Ronaldo has the most and is therefore the best choice.

We'll be back on Saturday for the penultimate update in the World Cup 2002 coverage.

The Germans penetrate further in their invasion
South Korea 0 - 1 Germany

25th June 2002
I think we all knew who we wanted to win, and we have been royally shafted once more. The one and only comfort an English fan can get after going out of the world cup is to watch Germany go out as well but this has not happened. The above picture reminds me of when the Nazis invaded Poland, I dont know about you. Fair play though to the Koreans, they surprised us all in previous rounds with their bribing skills and they made the Italians cry, but now it's all over - at least they don't have far to walk home.

The next Semi-Final is tomorrow between Brazil and Turkey and I think we can all figure out who is going to win that. So it looks like my latest predictions are my most accurate so far, and I will be sure to remind you all of that if they come true.

Germany.. bah

Beckham after England crash out to Brazil
Brazil 2 - 1 England

22nd June 2002
I decided to take a break until after the quarter finals in the last two days and now i'm back feeling much more confident about my predictions. Although not a clean-sweep I correctly predicted 75% of the results this time around. Brazil, Germany and Turkey all went through and only Spain failed to prove me right, damn them.

England vs. Brazil was a good game, in fact all the games were good apart from Turkey vs. Senegal, which in parts was Dire. It all started so well, Owen scoring his 2nd of the tournament after some slack defending and we were jumping about like madmen, but it all changed before and after the interval with two Brazillian goals - made in Brazil. We could blame Dave Seaman but at the end of the day we shouldn't have expected to win, and I say good luck to Brazil and let's all hope Germany lose.

I can now confidently predict the World Cup placings, if I turn out to be wrong then I apologise in advance, but if i'm right then I always knew I would be. Trust me on this one, I have a 'feeling':

Winners: Brazil
Runners-Up: Germany
Third: South Korea
Fourth: Turkey

As you can see it is completely different to my predictions earlier on (apart from Brazil), but they say the best thing about this year's world cup is it's "unpredictability" and i'll go with that when i'm wrong anyday.

20th June 2002
The last two days has been a small break from getting up early in the mornings to watch quality entertaining football. I've taken advantage of this by sleeping until early afternoon, having lunch and then going back to bed. Tomorrow is the day when England face Brazil and I have already made my predictions, as anti-patriotic as they are but I will say that I think the winners of this game will go on to lift the gold trophy.

In the quarter finals this year are 4 European teams, 2 American teams, 1 African team & 1 Asian team. Does this prove the Europeans to be superior once again? Yes, but it also shows the European and South American nations are losing the strong grip they've had in the past. The draw of this stage has also made it possible for all European teams to go through, but also for all of them to go out. Anything could happen, and this is why I am not a betting man.

And, we all hate the Italians.

18th June 2002
If you will cast your eyes downwards you will see the humiliating and pathetic attempt by yours truly to predict the winners and runners-up of this 2002 world cup. I have now learnt from my mistakes and will keep my mouth shut on the issue other to state that I stand by my decision that Brazil will win the world cup, but only because they're Brazillian - a european wouldn't get away with it.

Korea beat Italy in a dramatic golden goal THRILLER, Portugal couldn't even get past the group stages and Mexico lost to the United States, who although they are one of my favourite teams are still shit and will lose to the Germans.

Ok so, I said I wouldn't call it, but I will.. just not in order. The semi-finals will be between:

Brazil, Germany, Turkey, Spain

England, South Korea, Senegal and USA are going home. I'd bet my valuable assets on it.

Ronny
Brazil Vs. Costa Rica

14th June 2002
The last group games take place later on today with Korea, USA and Portugal fighting for 2 qualifying places. England will play Denmark on Saturday and Ireland face Spain on Sunday and if they win I can promise total anarchy on the streets of Dublin and free pints of guiness on the house in every house.

At this point, the end of the group stages, this is my prediction for winners and runners-up this year:
  1. Brazil
  2. Italy
  3. Portugal
  4. Mexico
Sweden qualify 2nd in the group of death
Sweden 1 - 1 Argentina

12th June 2002
France are OUT, Argentina are OUT.
Before the tournament, they were joint favourites to win the World Cup and after only 1 week in - both teams are gone. France put in a shocking performance which we would've expected from a country like.. Wales, only managing 1 point in total. Argentina came closer to a respectable tournament but Sweden and England qualify ahead of them in THE GROUP OF DEATH.

I promised in depth analysis of England Vs. Nigeria, but to be honest it was a crap game and Seaman's hair is too long so I have nothing to say about it. Ireland on the other hand played fantastic again and qualify for the next round where they face Spain. Goals from Robbie Keane, Gary Breen and.. someone else got them the points. Round 2 is just around the corner.

Other Scores
Denmark 2 - 0 France
Senegal 3 - 3 Uraguay
Slovenia 1 - 3 Paraguay
Cameroon 0 - 2 Germany
Saudi Arabia 0 - 3 Ireland

Koreans don't let down the fans
South Korea 1 - 1 USA

10th June 2002
Unfortunately this week I have exams so I cannot cast my all knowing eye over every game as I had done up until now but I will be here Wednesday with expert comments and criticisms of England Vs. Nigeria. The media is going mad over Beckham's goal, Portugal finally got going and the Russians let not only us, but themselves down as they lost to hosts Japan.. will this spark a nuclear war? We can only hope so.

Other Scores
South Korea 1 - 1 USA
Costa Rica 1 - 1 Turkey
South Africa 1 - 0 Slovenia
Brazil 4 - 0 China
Japan 1 - 0 Russia
Tunisia 1 - 1 Belgium
Italy 1 - 2 Croatia
Mexico 2 - 1 Ecuador

Bacham
Argentina 0 - 1 England

7th June 2002
Finally the big wait is over and we were not disappointed, well I was because it was a typical England performance; no flair or innovative attacking play. However the game itself was so big that it was exciting to watch, and there was some tension towards the end when Argentina set up camp in our penalty box in small tents and arabian teepees.

Beckham's penalty was enough to win it for Angleterre
World Cup Goal Counter

Beckham's goal was enough to win it in the end, so now all we have to do is draw unconvincingly against the Nigerians and we're sorted.

Robbie Keane scores late on against the Germans
Germany 1 - 1 Ireland

We've dropped behind on the other matches, so here are all the
Other Scores:

Denmark 1 - 1 Senegal
France 0 - 0 Uraguay
Spain 3 - 1 Paraguay
Cameroon 1 - 1 Saudi Arabia
Germany 1 - 1 Ireland
Sweden 2 - 1 Nigeria

the USA pull out a surprise victory
USA 3 - 2 Portugal

5th June 2002
Day 6 of the 2002 World Cup and another shock result. Portugal were one of the favourites to make it far this year and are ranked in the top 5 in the world, but came unstuck this morning against the States. The US scored 3 within 40 minutes to take an amazing lead, they went on to concede two but still held on for probably their best win of all time.

In light of that result, Portugal (with the exception of Saudi Arabia) definately have the worst defence in the tournament. Germany Vs. Ireland is up next and promises to be one of the best fixtures of the group stages and a win for Ireland could set them up for qualification to the next round.

The two hosts started well. Japan were the better team against Belgium in a fast-paced match and South Korea started with a great win against Poland in what has been described as the best game so far.

Russia 2 - 0 Tunisia
South Korea 2 - 0 Poland
China 0 - 2 Costa Rica
Japan 2 - 2 Belgium

Rivaldo faking injury
Turkey 1 - 2 Brazil

4th June 2002
Into Day 4 and England's disappointing draw is almost forgotten about, until next time. Yesterday's spectacle was Turkey Vs. Brazil (1 - 2), which could have been the best match so far with the Brazilian flair still apparent after fading slightly from the international scene.

Rivaldo could be facing a ban from Fifa for 'play-acting' in that same match (full story here), japan and south korea play their opening games later today and .. it's cold.

Batistuta scores the winner against Nigeria
Argentina 1 - 0 Nigeria

Other Scores
Paraguay 2 - 0 South Africa
Spain 3 - 1 Slovenia
England 1 - 1 Sweden
Croatia 0 - 1 Mexico
Italy 2 - 0 Ecuador

2nd June 2002
Very early in the morning here, early afternoon in Japan and Korea and England's opening game against the Swedes is only hours away now. Argentina secured 3 points against a trying Nigerian squad who always seemed to be fighting a losing battle against the Argentine's awesome attacking skills.

Yesterday of course, the Germans racked up 8 against a shockingly poor Saudi Arabia, which has dented morale in the community slightly;

Ryan says: did you see the germans?
Ryan says: bastards
Ryan says: i missed all 8 of the goals

Paraguay and South Africa is next, then it's England's big opening game followed by the Spaniards, the World Cup has only just started..

Matt Holland gets the Irish a point against Cameroon
Ireland 1 - 1 Cameroon

1st June
The Republic of Ireland get off to a steady start against Cameroon, the game itself was debateably worth getting up early for but Matty Holland's sweet equaliser definately was. This means that Holland is currently joint first for the Golden Boot after two games.

Two more games to go on this pleasant summer Saturday so if you need me i'll be infront of the TV.

31st May 2002
Today the World Cup began, and I was there in me chair watching. The opening ceremony was very elaborate and quite well done, much better than USA '94 and France '98, but it's not unlike the Asians to do everything in a big way. I was impressed.

Senegal beat France, 1-0, a 'shock' result and a good game to start the tournament and we can only hope for the same quality of games to justify me getting up at 7am every morning to watch.

The republic tomorrow and England's first game on Sunday, it's only just begun and 'World Cup Fever' is RIFE.

Tomorrow we bring some predictions from the TON crew, and some locals on the winners, the losers and the russians.

Senegal beat world champions France in opening game
France 0 - 1 Senegal
